Dedicated to appreciation of Bayou Music: Cajun – Zydeco – Creole
•Supporting Cajun Creole Zydeco Revival in New York Music Scene•
Bayou (pronounced /ˈbaɪ.oʊ/) is a body of water, famous in Louisiana, and typically found in flat, low-lying areas, such as Brooklyn (Kings County), the second-most densely populated county in USA having its own distinct culture and independent music scene. The bayou emits musical sounds arranged as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative desire for good friends, dancing, and eats. In the Northeast, you’ll hear us at Jalopy Music Theatre Bayou n’ Brooklyn Festival, May 1-13, 2012, Red Hook Brooklyn, USA, Jalopy Music Theatre a community center for performance, workshops, classes, instrument repair, and nightly music. As director Lynette Wiley puts it, “So many musicians learned at their grandparents’ knees, sitting on the front porch. We started the music school for adults who didn’t have elders to learn from.” Jalopy presents roots music from all over the world: and is our host for next year’s festival. a ‘Bayou mix‘ of Cajun Creole and Zydeco. We’ll also be found at Dixon Place NYC, during the Lounge Series, namely trio and duo salon performances.
